This is where our process becomes important.
A pressure washer is only one part of the job.
At Wash Hawk Softwash, we select our cleaning method based on the condition, age and type of surface we’re working on.
For dirtier concrete, we may first use our commercial soft-wash system to apply an appropriate cleaning solution.
The goal is to treat the organic contamination rather than relying entirely on brute-force pressure to remove what you see.
That can help us achieve a more thorough cleaning and can help slow the return of organic growth compared with simply blasting away surface discoloration.
Then we bring in the mechanical cleaning equipment.
Our Surface Cleaner Handles the Big Areas
For larger flat concrete areas such as driveways and patios, we typically use a commercial surface cleaner.
If you’ve never seen one operating, imagine a large circular cleaning head with rotating spray nozzles underneath.
It allows us to clean larger areas efficiently while producing a much more uniform result than trying to clean an entire driveway one narrow stripe at a time with a pressure-washing wand.
But a surface cleaner can’t reach everything.
That’s why having the right equipment—and knowing when to use it—matters.
The Turbo Nozzle Helps Us Get Into the Tight Areas
For smaller areas and places where our surface cleaner can’t effectively reach, we can use a turbo nozzle.
That may include certain edges, corners and tighter areas around concrete surfaces.
It’s another tool in the toolbox.
And that’s really how we look at exterior cleaning.
There isn’t one tool, one pressure setting or one process that’s right for every surface.
The equipment needs to match the job.
Full Pressure Does NOT Belong on Every Piece of Concrete
This is one of the biggest misconceptions about pressure washing.
Concrete looks incredibly strong, so it’s easy to assume:
Concrete + more pressure = better cleaning.
That’s not our philosophy.
Concrete can be damaged.
In particular, younger or more vulnerable concrete can be etched by excessive pressure or improper technique. Once you’ve physically altered the surface of the concrete, cleaning it again isn’t going to magically put that surface back.
A professional needs to understand what they’re cleaning before simply pulling the trigger at maximum pressure.
At Wash Hawk, our goal isn’t to determine how much pressure the machine can produce.
Our goal is to determine:
How much pressure does this particular surface actually need?
Those are two very different questions.
We Pay Attention to the Details—Including Your Concrete Joints
Sometimes it’s the little things that separate careful pressure washing from careless pressure washing.
For example, some concrete slabs have wood expansion joints between sections.
Hit those deteriorating wood joints aggressively with the wrong nozzle or excessive pressure and you may start tearing them apart.
The concrete might end up cleaner while something else gets damaged in the process.
That’s not a successful cleaning job in our book.
We want to improve the property—not create another repair for the homeowner.
Pavers Require a Completely Different Conversation
If your driveway, walkway or patio is made from pavers, we want you to understand something before we begin.
Pressure washing pavers can remove the sand between the joints.
That means cleaning may be only one part of restoring the surface.
Depending on the paver system and its condition, re-sanding may be necessary afterward, and sealing may also be appropriate depending on the desired result and system.
We don’t want a customer finding this out after we’ve already cleaned everything.
That’s why we talk about it beforehand.
We Want You to Know What to Expect Before We Start
Property protection isn’t something we begin thinking about after we turn the equipment on.
It starts when we look at the job.
We evaluate the concrete, surrounding materials, joints, landscaping and other areas that could potentially be affected by the cleaning process.
And if we see something you should know about, we tell you.
If there’s a limitation, we’ll discuss it.
If there’s a potential downside, we’ll discuss it.
If cleaning one area may affect another material, we’ll discuss it.
If your pavers may need new joint sand afterward, we’ll discuss it.
We would rather have an informed customer who understands exactly what we’re doing than make unrealistic promises just to win a job.
